Program Introduction

Move from building SwiftUI screens to engineering complete, reliable iOS products. This intermediate iOS developer course for East Africa focuses on the work employers and clients expect: scalable app architecture, authenticated APIs, local-first data, Swift concurrency, testing and TestFlight delivery. Projects are shaped around East African commerce and service needs. You will learn to keep an app useful during network disruption, communicate sync state honestly, secure user sessions and validate critical flows before release. The result is a production-style portfolio app that demonstrates more than interface design.

Key Features & Benefits

• Architecture patterns explained through working features rather than abstract diagrams. • Authenticated APIs, pagination, retries and secure session management. • Local-first product design for unreliable or expensive connectivity. • Practical device services: maps, location, notifications and deep links. • Automated unit, integration and UI testing of critical journeys. • TestFlight release workflow with App Store metadata and privacy preparation.

Real-World Applications

• Build a marketplace or merchant-discovery app for Ugandan and East African SMEs. • Create a field-service app that stores tasks offline and synchronises when connectivity returns. • Develop a delivery, tourism or transport product with maps and location-aware search. • Prototype a fintech or commerce journey using authorised mobile-money sandboxes or mocked integrations. • Qualify for iOS developer, mobile software engineer or product-focused freelance work across East Africa.

What you will learn

  • Design maintainable SwiftUI applications with feature boundaries, protocols, dependency injection and testable presentation logic.
  • Build resilient API clients with authentication, pagination, retries, request cancellation and useful error mapping.
  • Use Swift concurrency safely for parallel work, task cancellation and responsive interfaces.
  • Create local-first data flows with SwiftData caching, background refresh and explicit synchronisation states.
  • Implement authentication, secure token storage and permission-aware access to notifications and location.
  • Add maps, location, deep links and push-notification flows where they create genuine user value.
  • Write unit, integration and UI tests for important product journeys.
  • Distribute a release candidate through TestFlight with complete metadata, privacy information and tester guidance.

Before you enroll

  • Working Swift knowledge, including structs, classes, protocols, collections, optionals, closures and asynchronous programming concepts.
  • Completion of Ellipkom’s SwiftUI iOS App Development Course in Uganda or equivalent ability.
  • Ability to build multi-screen SwiftUI apps, use optionals and model JSON with Codable.
  • Basic experience with REST APIs, Git and Xcode debugging.
  • Access to a Mac that can run a currently supported version of Xcode.

What you need

  • A Mac with a currently supported macOS version and the latest stable compatible Xcode.
  • Xcode Simulator plus access to an iPhone for notifications, camera or location testing where possible.
  • A free Apple Account; Apple Developer Program membership is recommended for TestFlight and broader device testing.
  • SwiftUI, Swift Concurrency, URLSession, SwiftData, MapKit, UserNotifications, Swift Testing and XCTest.
  • Git and a code-hosting account for collaboration and portfolio evidence.
  • An API client and access to a safe sandbox or mock API; payment exercises should never use live credentials in source code.
